Zimmer Children's Museum Welcomes V.I.B. Visitors Under the Age of 2


A respected presence in the Southern California legal sphere, Sanford Michelman guides Michelman & Robinson, LLP, as co-founder and litigation partner. Community involved, Sanford Michelman has provided pro bono assistance to those of limited means through Bet Tzedek and served on the board of the Zimmer Children's Museum.

The Los Angeles museum is unique in offering to visitors of all ages a wide range of activities, from the multi-instrumental musical jam Rhythms of the World to the Wishing Wall, which encourages children to envision a better tomorrow. 

Visitors under the age of 2 can also take part in a number of fun activities, with the V.I.B. (Very Important Babies) Lounge offering a brightly colored environment that contains activity mats, mirrors, and plush toys. 

Wednesday at 9 am is the anticipated V.I.B Hour, when young guests take over the museum and crawl and climb in a relaxed setting. Twice a month, this includes the Art Crawl, when the art room is transformed into a giant blank canvas that allows babies and toddlers to create messy, colorful artwork together.

Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Supports Early Literacy


A litigation partner with Michelman & Robinson LLP in Los Angeles, Sanford Michelman co-founded the firm, which focuses on the advertising, digital media, financial services, and insurance industries. To stay active with his professional community, Sanford Michelman belongs to the board of directors of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). This organization leverages the success of the insurance industry to make a difference in communities across the nation.

IICF has partnered with Sesame Workshop, the organization behind Sesame Street, to support early literacy and the two organizations have recently renewed the partnership based on the success of their joint efforts. The renewal comes with new, bilingual content that will provide multimedia tools for increasing early literacy.

The content will include 100,000 storybooks featuring Sesame Street characters to be distributed to charities and children’s organizations along with copies of Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day study materials. The partnership will also produce a free online course for early childhood professionals that emphasizes family engagement and early literacy, as well as webinar for IICF volunteers that teach them how to use the materials in a meaningful way.

Bet Tzedek Provides Legal Services on a Variety of Matters


A co-founder of Michelman & Robinson, LLP, Sanford Michelman serves the firm as a litigation partner in Los Angeles. Throughout his career, Sanford Michelman has been recognized for his legal work and dedication to community service. He has donated his time and resources to numerous organizations over the years, including Bet Tzedek, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that provides free legal assistance.

Bet Tzedek offers pro bono services in a variety of areas, including disability, government benefits, housing, and employment rights. The organization also oversees programs to help with elder law and estate planning issues such as guardianships, wills, home equity fraud, and elder abuse. 

As part of its Community Outreach Project, Bet Tzedek offers legal services and representation on these and other matters at senior centers and Jewish Family Service SOVA centers throughout Los Angeles County. Other services provided through Bet Tzedek’s Community Outreach Project focus on debt counseling, bankruptcy, consumer protection, and public benefits. 

Another popular Bet Tzedek offering is the group’s Self-Help Conservatorship Clinic, which provides assistance to those considering filing a conservatorship without the aid of legal counsel. Offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, the Self-Help Clinic is held at several locations, including the Norwalk Library, the Lancaster Regional Library, and the Long Beach Courthouse.

California Sports Equipment Regulated for Safety by CSAC


A top-rated trial attorney in the state of California and co-founder of the national law firm Michelman & Robinson, LLP, Sanford Michelman has won numerous lawsuits, from class actions to government cases. In addition, Sanford Michelman has considerable experience within the sports industry. Sanford Michelman played a significant role in licensing sports participation through an appointment to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Administered by California's Department of Consumer Affairs, CSAC is dedicated to enhancing health and safety in the public sphere. A semiautonomous board, CSAC makes regulatory decisions regarding amateur and professional sports, including kickboxing, boxing, and mixed martial arts.

Regulations from CSAC range from rules of the game to lists of acceptable equipment for sports meets. For example, the commission issued a list of boxing gloves that meet required specifications for use at professional and amateur boxing meets. California's lead athletic inspector Mark Relyea and executive officer Andy Foster oversaw the extensive research and examination process for approval of the gloves.

California State Athletic Commission - Protecting California Athletes


With nearly two decades of legal experience, Sanford Michelman is the co-founder and Chairman of Michelman & Robinson, LLP. In addition to managing a law firm, Sanford Michelman served on the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) for six years, from 1999 to 2005. 

Part of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the California State Athletic Commission oversees and regulates competitive sporting events, including professional mixed martial arts, amateur and professional kickboxing, and amateur and professional boxing. To ensure that events are handled as safely as possible, the CSAC is guided by eight different stated goals, from operational efficiency and effectiveness to health and safety, among others. In addition to processing applications and ensuring athletes, coaches, and promoters meet CSAC standards, the organization enforces the Professional Boxers Bill of Rights.

Created as a result of the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 and the Muhammad Ali Reform Act of 2000, the Professional Boxers Bill of Rights is primarily concerned with the health and well-being of the athletes. The thirteen points of the Bill of Rights define the guidelines that the CSAC enforces and that all athletes and others must follow. The document also ensures that the athletes have complete access to information about their opponents, the distribution of the award purse, and their contracts. Additionally, it covers the steps an athlete may take to appeal his or her suspension.

Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation - Early Literacy Programming


Attorney Sanford Michelman is co-founder and Chairman of Michelman & Robinson, LLP, in Los Angeles. . He focuses much of his practice on the financial services, advertising, insurance, and digital media industries and has been honored numerous times for his accomplishments. While leading his rapidly expanding law firm, Sanford Michelman also serves on the Board of Directors of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). 

The IICF is a network of insurance industry professionals who maintain a commitment to helping communities and enriching lives. The group includes professionals from all branches of the industry, using their collective strength to help others through leadership, volunteerism, and grant opportunities. 

Among many other worthwhile programs, the IICF operates an early literacy initiative in conjunction with Sesame Workshop, the creators of Sesame Street. The IICF made a $750,000 grant available to Sesame Workshop for the project, resulting in the “Every Day is Reading and Writing Day” program. The program features a wealth of digital literacy resources for children and parents in hopes of closing the early childhood literacy gap in America.

The Zimmer Children’s Museum’s Three Membership Options

The Zimmer Children’s Museum, an interactive space for children and families to learn and enjoy creativity, relies on the support of its members. Below is a quick overview of the museum’s three membership options:

1. Basic: A basic membership grants two name adults with free, unlimited admission to the museum. Children and grandchildren named on the membership are also granted free admission. In addition, basic members receive regular members-only emails, discounts on camps and classes, and access to exclusive members-only events.

2. Plus: With a plus membership, up to three adults are listed on the membership, and two one-time guest passes are also included. Free admission is extended to grandparents of a named child when they are accompanied by a cardholder and all benefits of basic membership are incorporated. 

3. Premium: The highest membership level encompasses the features of plus membership, along with allowing the designation of four adult members. Each premium membership also receives a 10-visit guest pass punch card to bring in persons other than parents and grandparents. Further, these members receive discounted admission to over 100 children’s museums around the country.
